Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh): In a shocking incident, a crude bomb was hurled in a Lucknow court in which some lawyers have reportedly been injured. Sanjeev Lodhi, joint secretary of the Lucknow bar association, claimed he was the target and demanded the accused to be arrested immediately. “There is a threat to my life and I want security. Some unidentified men in civil clothes came and attacked me. Such anti-social elements should not be allowed to enter the courts,” he said without revealing the names of the suspects. Reports say three live bombs were also recovered from the premises, putting a serious question mark on the the law and order and security at the court which generally is a high-security zone. Lodhi said he had been complaining about a few judicial officers. He said about 10 people hurled crude bombs outside his chamber in which he and two other lawyers were injured. “One bomb exploded but two still lay unexploded,” he said, questioning the security on the premises. Bomb disposal and dog squads have reached the site of the blast. Last month, lawyers struck work in protest against the recent attacks on them in the state. The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh had asked bar associations to abstain from work to put pressure on the government to pass legislation to protect lawyers. On January 7, lawyer Shekhar Tripathi (32) was beaten to death with sticks by five men in Lucknow, triggering anger among his colleagues who sat with the body at the district collectorate demanding justice. The incident comes weeks after a man barged in along with his two friends and shot dead a person accused of his father’s murder in a Bijnor courtroom. Chief judicial magistrate Yogesh Kumar was present along with another set of lawyers when the incident took place. Police are investigating the incident. More details are awaited.
